Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, root-of-life carpets hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture with abundant oils that help regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Gabbeh, created in a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, is warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a sensation of coolness. And above all, it's an art form. Gabbeh rugs, imaginatively crafted by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique original. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the pile. For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool, which may produce a unique scent from the wool dye. The scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed before shipping
The pom-poms on the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment. Removing the pom-poms will not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pom-poms removed, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
