Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs woven by the Qashqai nomads of Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a lot of oil for good body temperature regulation, resulting in soft and pleasant-feeling fibers.
Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven one by one by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And, of course, there's their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find a special Gabbeh rug that's just for you, one that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Precautions
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, uneven weaving, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used to color the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
