Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture contains a lot of oil to effectively regulate body temperature.
The Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously by Iranian nomads, one by one, using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing heat.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but also displayed on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry it in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape, pattern distortion, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
