Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who graze their flocks in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and contains a lot of oil for good thermoregulation, resulting in soft and pleasant-feeling wool. Gabbeh, woven by Iranian nomads by hand, strand by strand, using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture. A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, boasting outstanding durability. Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated, not feeling hot, in summer. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh, created from the nomads' imagination, often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, original piece with no two alike. They can be laid on the floor, of course, but can also be displayed as art on a wall. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile. If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar item firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur. This odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
