Characteristics of the Origin (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in the southern part of Iran, belonging to Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are known as "Souzani" or "Silki Pitchi," and the region is registered with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as a kilim producing area.
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely fine and firm weave. Nomadic women weave them based on imagination without a pattern, so their delicacy and precision are astonishing. They are Soumak woven, have very little pile on the surface, and often feature animal and geometric patterns.
Furthermore, Sirjan kilims often have deep colors; red dyes are extracted from cherries, blue from eggplant skin, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly regarded worldwide and cherished as beautiful handicrafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that become more appealing with age. Depending on when they were woven, they are called vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are loved by people of all ages. Most kilims are made of wool, but some are also produced using cotton or silk. They use natural materials. Since natural dyes are used for coloring, they can be used with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are durably woven and are based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups, known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns inspired by nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups live in the vast land of Iran. The designs and colors vary by region, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Other Uses for Kilims
Kilims are not only used simply as carpets or floor coverings but are also widely utilized as wall hangings or as other interior items for sofas, tables, and beds. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive, and they are often used as accents in a room. Kilims are more than just decorative items; they are important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add unique charm and warmth to a living space. By incorporating kilims, you can create a life with art and comfort, and enjoy a life surrounded by things you love.
Kilims and Interior Design
The use of kilims is highly flexible and can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, the unique patterns and colors of kilims can add an accent to a simple space. For natural or Scandinavian interiors, kilims can enhance warmth and a natural atmosphere when combined with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials. They also pair well with a bohemian atmosphere, enhancing the overall feel of a room when placed on the floor or hung on a wall. Kilims have an ethnic design and tribal atmosphere, making them compatible with interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, or Morocco. By placing them as tapestries or cushions, they can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you notice dirt, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung-out towel. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with water to remove any detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, weaving irregularities, or dye variations. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
