Characteristics of the Origin (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, belonging to Kerman Province. The kilims woven in Sirjan are called "Suzani" or "Silky Pich," and the city is registered with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as a kilim production center.
Sirjan kilims are characterized by a very intricate and sturdy weave. Nomadic women weave these kilims based on imagination without patterns, so their delicacy and intricacy are astonishing. They are soumak weave, with a surface that doesn't fray much, and often feature animal and geometric patterns.
Additionally, Sirjan kilims often have deep colors, with red dyes extracted from cherries, blue from eggplant skins, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks and tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly regarded worldwide and are cherished as beautiful crafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that become more appealing with age. They are called vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims depending on the era they were woven, and are loved by people of all ages. While most kilims are made of wool, some are also produced using cotton or silk. They use natural materials. Since natural dyes are used for dyeing, you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are durably woven and are based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups, known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns inspired by nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups live in the vast land of Iran. The designs and colors vary by region, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Other Uses for Kilims
Kilims are widely used not only as simple rugs or floor coverings but also as decorative elements on walls, sofas, tables, beds, and other interior items. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive features, often used to accent a room. Kilims are not merely decorative items but are important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add a unique charm and warmth to the living space. By incorporating kilims, you can create a lifestyle surrounded by art and comfort, enjoying a life filled with things you love.
Kilims and Interiors
Kilims are very flexible in their use and can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, incorporating the unique patterns and colors of kilims into a simple space adds an accent to that space. For natural and Scandinavian interiors, combining them with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials enhances the warmth and natural feel of the kilims. They also go well with a bohemian atmosphere; laying them on the floor or hanging them on the wall enhances the overall room ambiance. Kilims have ethnic designs and a tribal feel, making them suitable for interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, Morocco, and other regions. Placing them as tapestries or cushions can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you are concerned about stains, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, uneven weaving, and uneven dyeing. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
