Characteristics of the Region (Varamin)

Varamin is located near Tehran, the capital of Iran, and has historically been connected by the Silk Road. In Varamin, where diverse ethnic groups and races reside, traditional hand-woven "kilims" are particularly famous. The colors of Varamin kilims change with the times; older pieces often feature vibrant hues, while recent ones tend to use more muted and darker colors. While various patterns exist in the designs, geometric patterns known as "Cheshm Gir" are particularly characteristic of this region. Wool is the primary material, but cotton is also used in some pieces, creating variations in touch and texture.

What is a Kilim?

Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that become more appealing with age. Depending on when they were woven, they are called vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are loved by people of all ages. Kilims are mostly made of wool, but some kilims using cotton or silk are also produced. They use natural materials. Since natural dyes are used for coloring, you can use them with confidence. These hand-woven kilims are durably woven and are based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups, known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns with motifs of nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups live in the vast land of Iran. The designs and colors vary by region, offering a diverse range of patterns to enjoy.

Other Uses for Kilims

Kilims are widely used not only as simple rugs or floor coverings but also as decorative items hung on walls, or placed on sofas, tables, and beds. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive features, often used to accent a room. Kilims are not just decorative items; they are important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add a unique charm and warmth to a living space. By incorporating kilims, you can achieve an artistic and comfortable life, surrounded by things you love.

Kilims and Interior Design

Kilims are highly versatile and can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, by introducing the unique patterns and colors of a kilim into a simple space, you can add an accent to the area. For natural or Nordic interiors, combining them with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials can enhance the warmth and natural ambiance of the kilim. They also pair well with a bohemian atmosphere; placing them on the floor or hanging them on the wall can elevate the entire room's feel. Kilims have an ethnic design and tribal atmosphere, making them compatible with interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, or Morocco. By using them as tapestries or cushions, you can add warmth and depth to the entire room.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you notice stains, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung-out towel or similar. Afterwards, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Important Notes

Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, weaving irregularities, or dyeing unevenness. Please enjoy these as part of the unique charm of a hand-woven item.

I was looking for a rug when I saw Persia Direct's Persian rugs on Instagram and decided to visit their store. The first one was a doormat, which I bought online. It was a really good product, so this time I came to the store looking for a Gabbeh large enough to place in front of my sofa. I received very polite service and found a favorite piece, which I immediately decided on. It really suits the atmosphere of my home, and I'm glad I bought it. Thank you very much.

I bought a Persian rug from an online shop for the first time.
I was a bit anxious about buying a Persian rug online because its appearance can change so much depending on the light, but the polite and thorough answers I received when I called to ask questions put me at ease and I went ahead with the purchase.
Although the actual rug was a little darker than expected, I'm delighted to have found such a wonderful item that met my expectations.
They also handled my request for a tapestry finish quickly and with great care, making for a very pleasant shopping experience.
The finish was also meticulously done and beautiful.
I would definitely like to use their services again.

This was my first purchase. I had been looking for a Gabbeh for my living room and had seen many in person, but I couldn't find anything that really spoke to me. Then I found one on your website and it was love at first sight, so I bought it immediately. I was a little worried about buying something based solely on an image, but the actual product was just as wonderful as I imagined. The packaging was also very careful, and it even came with a letter! Thank you so much for the beautiful Persian tapestry as well. I've hung it in my entryway. I look forward to shopping with you again if the opportunity arises.
