Characteristics of the Region (Sirjan)
Sirjan is a city located in southern Iran, within Kerman Province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are sometimes called "Suzani" or "Silky Pichi," and the region is registered by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as a kilim production area.
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely fine and firm weave. Nomadic women weave them based on imagination without a pattern, making their delicacy and intricacy astonishing. They are soumak woven, so the surface is not very fuzzy, and animal and geometric patterns are often seen.
Furthermore, Sirjan kilims often feature deep colors, with red dyes extracted from cherries, blue from eggplant skins, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly regarded worldwide and cherished as beautiful crafts.
What is a Kilim?
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that grow richer in character with use. Depending on the period they were woven, they are referred to as vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are beloved by people of all ages. Most kilims are made of wool, but some kilims using cotton or silk are also produced. Natural materials are used. Natural dyes are also used for coloring, so you can use them with peace of mind. These hand-woven kilims are strongly woven and are based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups, known as tribal rugs. They feature geometric patterns with motifs of nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
Various ethnic groups live in the vast land of Iran. The design and color characteristics differ by production area, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Other Uses for Kilims
Kilims are widely used not only simply as carpets or floor coverings but also as decorative items on walls, sofas, tables, beds, and other interior elements. Their unique designs and colors are characteristic, and they are often utilized as accents in a room. Kilims are not merely decorative items but are positioned as important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add unique charm and warmth to a room's space. By utilizing kilims, you can achieve an artful and comfortable living environment, enjoying a life surrounded by things you love.
Kilims and Interior Design
The ways kilims can be used are extremely flexible, and they can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, incorporating the unique patterns and colors of a kilim into a simple space adds an accent to that space. For natural or Nordic interiors, combining them with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials can enhance the kilim's warmth and natural atmosphere. They also go well with a bohemian vibe; laying them on the floor or hanging them on a wall enhances the overall atmosphere of the room. Kilims have ethnic designs and a tribal atmosphere, making them compatible with interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, Morocco, and other regions. Arranging them as tapestries or cushions can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If you notice any stubborn dirt, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Afterward, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, weaving irregularities, or dyeing inconsistencies. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
