Sirjan is a city located in the southern part of Iran, belonging to Kerman province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are called "Suzani" or "Silki Pitchi" and the city is registered as a kilim producing region by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their extremely fine and firm weave. Because nomadic women weave them from imagination without a pattern, their delicacy and meticulousness are astonishing. They are Soumak woven, with little fuzz on the surface, and often feature animal and geometric patterns.
Furthermore, Sirjan kilims often have deep colors; red is extracted from cherries, blue from eggplant skins, yellow from saffron, green from walnut leaves, and brown from walnut husks or tobacco. Due to these characteristics, Sirjan kilims are highly valued worldwide and are cherished as beautiful crafts.
Persian hand-woven kilims are globally popular traditional hand-woven textiles that become more appealing with age. Depending on when they were woven, they are called vintage kilims, old kilims, or antique kilims, and are loved by people of all ages. Most kilims are made of wool, but some are also produced using cotton or silk. They use natural materials. Natural dyes are also used for dyeing, so you can use them with confidence. These hand-woven kilims are durable and woven based on the design styles of tribes and ethnic groups, known as tribal rugs. They are characterized by geometric patterns inspired by nature and animals, and each kilim has a unique design.
The vast land of Iran is home to various ethnic groups. The design and color characteristics differ by region, allowing you to enjoy a diverse range of design patterns.
Kilims are widely used not only as simple rugs or floor coverings but also as decorative items hung on walls, or as part of other interior elements such as sofas, tables, and beds. Their unique designs and colors are distinctive, and they are often utilized as accents in a room. Kilims are not merely decorative items; they are positioned as important elements that enrich the overall atmosphere of a room and highlight its individuality. They add a unique charm and warmth to a room's space. By utilizing kilims, you can create a life surrounded by art and comfort, enjoying a lifestyle filled with things you love.
Kilims and Interior DesignKilims are extremely versatile and can be incorporated into various interior styles. In modern interiors, integrating the unique patterns and colors of kilims into a simple space adds an accent. For natural or Scandinavian interiors, pairing kilims with wooden furniture, plants, or other natural materials can enhance their warmth and natural ambiance. They also pair well with a bohemian atmosphere; laying them on the floor or hanging them on the wall can elevate the entire room's vibe. Kilims feature ethnic designs and tribal aesthetics, making them suitable for interiors that incorporate cultural elements from Iran, Turkey, and Morocco. By using them as tapestries or cushions, you can add warmth and depth to the entire room.
Daily CareRemove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom. If stains are a concern, dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important NoteDue to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape, weaving irregularities, or dyeing inconsistencies. Please enjoy these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
