Characteristics of Hand-Woven Persian Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, made from plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product is exceptionally durable, essential for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and has a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content that helps regulate body temperature. Gabbehs are hand-woven, thread by thread, by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, resulting in a plush and pleasant feel. Well-woven Gabbehs are known for their excellent durability, said to last for 100 years. Born from climates with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs are warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool. And above all, their artistry is remarkable. Gabbehs created from the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being an original, one-of-a-kind piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile direction. If heavily soiled: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a wet cloth to remove detergent and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please understand these as part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may be present. This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pompoms can also be removed upon shipment
The pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipping. Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
