Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. They are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, rich in natural oils, effectively regulates body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, created by Iranian nomads who meticulously hand-weave each thread of this natural-dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also characterized by being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh rugs created by the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece with no two alike.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Gabbeh rugs are meant to be used for a long time. Why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used on the wool may occur.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
