Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are hand-woven using naturally dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is soft and pleasant to the touch due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously by hand by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls.
Why not find a Gabbeh that you can cherish forever, a special one just for you?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used on the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.
Pompoms can be removed for shipping
If requested, we can ship Gabbeh rugs with the pompoms on the corners or in the middle removed.
Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
