Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool by the Qashqai tribe, who are nomadic in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for living in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as a soft and pleasant texture rich in oil content, which helps in regulating body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously by Iranian nomads, one thread at a time, using naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, created in a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, which helps keep them from feeling hot.
And, above all, is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created imaginatively by nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, original work.
They can be laid on the floor, of course, but also displayed as art on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, or dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive smell from the dyes used to color the wool may occur.
The smell will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can also be removed before shipping.
The pom-poms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms will not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
