Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. They are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in their daily lives. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, woven by hand, strand by strand, by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, created in a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, are also characterized by being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And, above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs created imaginatively by nomads often feature animal and plant designs, with each piece being an original, one-of-a-kind item.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art.
Gabbeh rugs are something you can use for a long time; why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If you need to clean a stain: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the unique charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
The pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
