Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically herd in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They use vegetable-dyed wool and are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven one by one by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from the climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and airy in summer, giving a feeling of coolness.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, original piece with no two alike.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a well-wrung towel or similar. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pompoms can also be removed for shipping
If requested, the pompoms on the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery.
Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like your order shipped without the pompoms, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
