Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads who inhabit the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are deeply rooted in their daily lives, made with plant-dyed wool and featuring a long pile. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of natural oil for effective body temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, woven by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, providing a cool feel.
And, above all, their artistry is remarkable. The Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can, of course, be placed on the floor, but they are also artistic enough to be hung on a wall.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Important Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. As such, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
The pompoms attached to the corners and sides of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipping.
Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
