Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, grass-dyed wool rugs woven by hand by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and is soft and pleasant to the touch, containing a high amount of oil to effectively regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads strand by strand after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, created in a climate with large temperature differences between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being an original, one-of-a-kind item.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Precautions
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, or dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the dye used on the wool may occur.
The scent will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
