Features of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai tribe, nomadic people who live in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They hand-weave these rugs using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for surviving in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, woven by hand with care by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, using wool dyed with natural pigments, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, created in a climate with extreme daily temperature differences, are warm in winter and well-ventilated, giving a cool feeling in summer.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being an original and unique item.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may be present.
This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping
If requested, the pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery.
Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pompoms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via the email or phone number below.
