Features of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-piled, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool as part of their daily life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing the sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of lanolin, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture that helps regulate body temperature.
Gabbehs are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant feel, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads, strand by strand, from wool dyed with natural dyes.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, indicating its superior durability.
Born from the extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And, above all, their artistry is remarkable. Gabbehs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dye used on the wool.
The odor will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed before shipping
If requested, the pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
