Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomads who herd in Iran's Zagros Mountains. They are hand-woven using wool dyed with natural dyes. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, essential for surviving in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant feel due to its high lanolin content, which helps regulate body temperature.
The Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their fluffiness and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Born from the extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing heat buildup.
And, of course, their artistic quality is paramount. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, original work.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on the wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can enjoy for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap.
If worried about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and irregularities in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed before shipping.
The pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
