Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content to efficiently regulate body temperature.
Gabbeh rugs, made by Iranian nomads who carefully hand-weave each strand of this natural-dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, making them feel cool.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being an original, one-of-a-kind item.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
How about finding your own special Gabbeh rug that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap of the rug.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to their hand-woven nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, as well as weaving and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. As such, a distinctive odor from the dye used to color the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
