Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai tribe, who herd in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are hand-woven using naturally dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature well, resulting in soft and pleasant-to-the-touch wool. Gabbeh woven by Iranian nomads, meticulously hand-knotting each strand of this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable texture. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability. Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat. Daily Care
Remove dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. If you notice dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a cloth or towel until it is damp, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving unevenness, and dye unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive smell from the dyes used on the wool. The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can also be removed before shipping.
The pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipping. Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
