Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh are long-piled rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The wool used in this product, known as Persian Variant, possesses excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is soft and pleasant to the touch, containing a high amount of oil to effectively regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, woven meticulously one by one by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug, a rug you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile. If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Afterwards, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent, then dry in a well-ventilventilated shade.
Points to Note
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be irregularities in shape, pattern, weaving, and dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used for the wool may occur. The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
