Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomads, who hand-weave them from vegetable-dyed wool in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, rich in natural oils, helps in regulating body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, knot by knot, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their exceptional durability, said to last up to 100 years. Originating from a climate with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing feelings of heat. And, above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created imaginatively by nomads often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be displayed on walls. Why not find your own special Gabbeh rug, a piece that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the pile. For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be slight irregularities in shape and pattern, as well as variations in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Consequently, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool. This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
