Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, functional rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture contains a lot of oil to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbehs are characterized by their plush, comfortable feel, as they are dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time.
Well-woven Gabbehs are so durable that they are said to last 100 years.
Born from a climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbehs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, and each piece is a unique original, with no two alike.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Gabbehs are meant to be enjoyed for a long time, so why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Use a vacuum cleaner or broom to remove dirt and dust along the pile.
For stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dyes used on the wool.
The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
