Characteristics of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs made by Qashqai nomads who inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. They are hand-woven using naturally dyed wool and are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as soft, pleasant-to-the-touch fibers containing a lot of oil for effective temperature regulation. Gabbeh rugs, made by Iranian nomads who meticulously hand-weave each strand of this natural-dyed wool, are characterized by their soft and pleasant texture. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, demonstrating its superior durability. Created in a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are also known for being warm in winter and breathable in summer, making them feel cool. And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the imaginations of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be used not only on the floor but also displayed on walls as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile. If it gets dirty: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to its handmade nature, there may be variations in shape, pattern, weaving, and dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a handmade item. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool. This odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can also be removed before shipping.
The pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment. Removing the pompoms will not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
