Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically herd sheep in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are dyed with natural plant dyes and are deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing it to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of lanolin for effective temperature regulation, resulting in soft and pleasant-feeling wool.
These wools are dyed with natural dyes, and Gabbehs are meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, resulting in a plush and comfortable texture. Well-woven Gabbehs are so durable that they are said to last 100 years. Born from the climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing heat buildup. And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbehs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art. How about finding your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish forever?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique smell from the dyes used on the wool.
The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
