Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, everyday rugs hand-woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs are made by dyeing this wool with natural dyes and then meticulously hand-weaving each strand by Iranian nomads. They are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with large temperature swings between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated, not feeling hot, in summer.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and irregularities in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
