Characteristics of Persian Hand-knotted Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool, hand-knotted by the Qashqai tribe who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture contains a high oil content, allowing for effective temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-knotted one by one by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and not feeling hot in summer.
And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original item.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but also displayed on walls as art.
Why not find a special Gabbeh that is uniquely yours and can be cherished for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
If you are concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to its hand-knotted nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, and unevenness in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-knotted item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dye used to color the wool.
Please be aware that this odor will gradually dissipate with use.
