Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant-to-the-touch texture contains abundant natural oils for effective body temperature regulation.
These Gabbehs, made from wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbehs are said to last up to 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Born from the extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs are also known for being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing overheating.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbehs created from the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Gabbehs are meant to be used for a long time, so why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, and variations in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven product.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the wool dye may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
The pom-poms on the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipping.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like your Gabbeh shipped without pom-poms, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
