Characteristics of Persian Hand-knotted Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-knotted by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are deeply rooted in their daily lives, made from plant-dyed wool with a long pile. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The wool is dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-knotted by Iranian nomads, resulting in a plush and comfortable Gabbeh. Its sturdy weave makes Gabbeh highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool sensation.
And, of course, there's its artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They are so artistic that they can be displayed on a wall, not just on the floor.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Please Note
Due to the hand-knotted nature, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, and irregularities in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-knotted product.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used to color the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed upon request
If you request, the pompoms located at the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipping.
Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pompoms removed for shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
