Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads, who nomadize in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content for effective body temperature regulation.
Gabbeh, woven meticulously by Iranian nomads one strand at a time after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last 100 years, demonstrating their exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and not feeling hot in summer.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh created by the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being an original, one-of-a-kind piece.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but also displayed as art on walls.
