Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-piled rugs, deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai tribe, who weave them by hand using vegetable-dyed wool while nomadic in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for surviving the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture rich in oils for effective body temperature regulation.
Gabbehs are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel, as they are hand-woven by Iranian nomads, thread by thread, after dyeing the wool with natural dyes.
Well-woven Gabbehs are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing overheating.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbehs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape and pattern, uneven weaving, and uneven dyeing. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used on the wool may be present.
Please be aware that this odor will gradually dissipate with use.
