Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomads, who hand-weave them from plant-dyed wool in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, rich in natural oils, allows for effective temperature regulation.
The wool is dyed with natural dyes, and Gabbehs are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel, meticulously hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads.
A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Born from a climate with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, Gabbehs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbehs, imaginatively created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed as art on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shady area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, uneven weaving, or variations in dye. Please consider these as part of the unique charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed before shipping.
The pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.
Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the pom-poms removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
