Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as a soft and pleasant texture due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven meticulously by Iranian nomads, thread by thread, using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel. Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are also characterized by being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat. And, above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, imaginatively created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, uneven weaving, or uneven dyeing. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving. Additionally, as Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may occur. The odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
