Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-piled, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who graze their livestock in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are dyed with natural plant dyes and deeply rooted in everyday life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content to help with temperature regulation.
Gabbeh are characterized by their soft and pleasant feel, as they are woven by Iranian nomads, one strand at a time, using wool dyed with natural dyes.
A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh are also characterized by being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And, above all, their artistry. Gabbeh, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, making each piece a unique, one-of-a-kind original.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
If you are concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Important Notes

Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving unevenness, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.

Pom-poms can be removed for shipping

The pom-poms located at the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipping.
Removing the pom-poms will not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
