Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs, rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomads who hand-weave them in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product, developed to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, possesses excellent durability and a soft, pleasant feel, rich in oil to regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs, made by nomads in Iran meticulously hand-weaving each strand of this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and pleasant texture. Strongly woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing a feeling of heat. And above all, there is their artistry. The Gabbeh created by the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be displayed on walls. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may occur. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
