Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. They are made from naturally dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, essential for surviving the harsh conditions of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which contains a high amount of lanolin to effectively regulate body temperature.
These Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven carefully one by one by Iranian nomads from wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven items.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the wool dye may occur.
The smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
