Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs, hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and is soft to the touch with a lot of oil content to regulate body temperature well. Gabbeh, hand-woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using natural dyes on this wool, are characterized by their plush and pleasant feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, boasting excellent durability. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme day and night temperature differences, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, having the characteristic of not feeling hot. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature animal and plant designs, and each one is a unique, original piece. They can be used on the floor, of course, but also displayed on walls as art. How about finding your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the pile. If concerned about dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving. Additionally, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool. This odor will gradually disappear with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
