Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool as a fundamental part of their daily life. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture is attributed to its high fat content, which helps in temperature regulation.

Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven piece by piece by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes, are characterized by their soft and pleasant texture.

Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.

Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.

And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh created by the nomads' imagination often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.

They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on walls.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the pile.

If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar item tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Important Notes

Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven product.

Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the dye used for the wool may be present.

The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.

Pompoms can be removed before shipping.

The pompoms on the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.

Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
