Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool by the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing it to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a good amount of oil for thermoregulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture. Gabbeh, hand-woven thread by thread by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, are characterized by their fluffy and comfortable feel. A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, demonstrating its superior durability. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing them from feeling hot. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh, created imaginatively by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls. Why not find a special Gabbeh just for you, one that you can cherish for a long time?

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.

Important Notes

Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-weaving. Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used on the wool may occur. This odor will gradually disappear with use, but we ask for your understanding in advance.

Pom-poms can be removed before shipping.

The pom-poms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery if you request it.

Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
