Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomads who roam the Zagros Mountains in Iran. They are made from naturally dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, allowing it to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of lanolin for effective body temperature regulation, resulting in a soft and pleasant texture. Gabbeh rugs, hand-woven by Iranian nomads thread by thread after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, are characterized by their plush and comfortable feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, showcasing its exceptional durability. Gabbeh, born from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, is warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, providing a cool feeling. And above all, it boasts artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, imagined and created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile. For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with water to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be slight distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, or dyeing unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a distinctive odor from the wool dye may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
The pom-poms located at the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before shipping if you request it. Removing the pom-poms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish for the pom-poms to be removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
