Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool by the Qashqai nomads who inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran. The Persian Variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant feel due to its high oil content, which helps with temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture, hand-woven meticulously by Iranian nomads using this natural-dyed wool.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering comfort in hot weather.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be placed on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap.
For stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and dry in a well-ventilated shade.
Points to Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape or pattern, weaving variations, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven product.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dye used on the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed for shipping
The pom-poms located at the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like your order shipped without the pom-poms, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
