Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are hand-woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are deeply rooted in their daily lives, made from plant-dyed wool with a long pile. The sheep's wool used in this product, known as Persian Variant, possesses excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains and is rich in natural oils, making it soft and pleasant to the touch, adept at regulating body temperature.
This wool is dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven, thread by thread, by Iranian nomads, resulting in a Gabbeh with a characteristic fluffy and pleasant feel.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are renowned for their superior durability, said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the unique property of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there's its artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, imaginatively created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being an original, one-of-a-kind creation.
They can, of course, be laid on the floor, but they are also artistic enough to be displayed on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be variations in shape, pattern distortion, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the unique charm of hand-woven items.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used on the wool.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
