Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in daily life, hand-woven by the Qashqai tribe who nomadize in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product, developed for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, boasts excellent durability and a soft, pleasant texture with abundant natural oils for effective thermoregulation. The wool is dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, resulting in a fluffy and comfortable Gabbeh. A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last 100 years, demonstrating its exceptional durability. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and breathable, not feeling hot, in summer. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece with no two alike. They are so artistic that they can be displayed on a wall as art, as well as being placed on the floor. How about finding your own special Gabbeh that you can use for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the pile. If stains are a concern: dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present. The odor will gradually fade with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
