Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs, rooted in daily life, handwoven by the Qashqai tribe, who are nomads in Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, which contains a high fat content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh rugs, made by carefully dyeing this wool with natural dyes and handweaving each strand by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Gabbeh rugs, when tightly woven, are said to last for 100 years, showcasing their exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing feelings of heat.
And above all, there is their artistic quality. The Gabbeh rugs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, with no two being exactly alike, making each one a unique, original item.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed as art on walls.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn dirt: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Points to Note
Due to the nature of handweaving, there may be slight distortions in shape and pattern, as well as inconsistencies in weaving and dyeing. Please consider these characteristics as part of the charm of a handwoven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping.
The pompoms on the corners and in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pompoms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like the pompoms to be removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us by email or phone below.
