Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai tribe, who nomadically inhabit the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool deeply rooted in their daily lives. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with a high fat content to effectively regulate body temperature. Gabbeh rugs woven with such wool, dyed with natural dyes, and carefully hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their soft and pleasant feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing feelings of heat. And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created imaginatively by nomads often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can be laid on the floor or even displayed as art on walls. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile. For stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a tightly wrung towel or similar. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to the hand-woven nature, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing irregularities. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pompoms can also be removed before shipping
The pompoms attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment. Removing the pompoms will not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pompoms removed before shipment, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
