Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the lives of the Qashqai nomads who hand-weave them in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product is exceptionally durable, allowing sheep to survive in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and contains a high amount of natural oils for excellent body temperature regulation, resulting in soft and pleasant-feeling wool.
Gabbeh rugs, made from this wool dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven knot by knot by Iranian nomads, are characterized by their plush and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for up to 100 years.
Originating from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are also characterized by being warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And, above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Gabbeh rugs are made to be used for a long time; why not find your own special Gabbeh?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven product.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool, which may produce a unique odor from the dyes used. While the smell will gradually dissipate with use, we ask for your understanding in advance.
