Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads of Iran, who roam the Zagros Mountains. They are crafted from vegetable-dyed wool and are deeply rooted in their way of life. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product possesses excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture with high oil content, allowing for effective body temperature regulation. The wool is dyed with natural dyes, and each Gabbeh is carefully hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads, resulting in a soft and comfortable feel. A well-woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability. Gabbeh rugs, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and breathable in summer, preventing heat buildup. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, one-of-a-kind original. They can, of course, be placed on the floor, but are also artistic enough to be hung on walls. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile. If stains are a concern: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry it in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Notes
Due to its hand-woven nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving unevenness, and dye unevenness. Please consider these as part of the charm of a hand-woven item. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may be present. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
