Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made by the Qashqai nomads who graze their sheep in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian Variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant feel due to its high oil content, which helps with temperature regulation.
Gabbeh rugs are made by Iranian nomads who meticulously hand-weave each strand of this wool, dyed with natural dyes. They are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are said to last for 100 years, boasting superior durability.
Gabbeh, created in a climate with drastic temperature differences between day and night, is warm in winter and airy in summer, preventing it from feeling hot.
And above all, there's its artistic quality. Gabbeh rugs, imaginatively created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel thoroughly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
As these are hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may be present.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Tassels can be removed before shipping.
The tassels attached to the corners or middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before shipment.
Removing the tassels does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you wish to have the tassels removed before shipping, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
